In early January 2024, the conflict between the Tigray People’s Liberation Front and the federal government left the Ethiopian population destitute and families hungry. 77,109 households lost their crops and more than 40,000 households were exposed to food shortages and malnutrition.
SOS Faim responded to the emergency appeal from Facilitator for Change (FC), a partner since 2003, to provide food assistance to households and several primary schools. FC distributed food aid to 800 people, provided school meals for 1,145 children in four primary schools, and offered psychosocial support to 160 women and 40 men exposed to violence and sexual abuse.
In terms of agriculture, FC supplied 800 farmers with seeds and agricultural inputs and rehabilitated agricultural economic activities through the implementation of small-scale irrigation, the revival of vegetable production, the restocking of livestock (small ruminants) and the organisation of various training courses for farmers.
These actions played a crucial role in the resumption of agricultural activities.
