Launch of a book on the use of unregistered synthetic chemical pesticides in agriculture in the Ouémé Valley (Benin)
As part of its commitment to sustainable agriculture, SOS Faim supports AAGAC (Association Agroécologique d’Action Communautaire, Agroecological Association for Community Action) in Benin, which conducts action research on the use of chemical pesticides.
Between 2021 and 2023, AAGAC, in partnership with Ferme SAIN and SOS Faim Luxembourg, conducted a study on the use of unregistered synthetic pesticides. The results reveal widespread and poorly regulated use: 85% of the farmers surveyed use them, often without adequate training.
This study led to the publication of a book entitled ‘Unregistered synthetic chemical pesticides in agriculture in the Lower Ouémé Valley in Benin: findings and perspectives of stakeholders’, which will serve as a basis for advocacy and awareness-raising activities in favour of agroecological practices.
